THE MAMA WELLNESS FOUNDATION

We’re more than a mental health organization – We’re a lifeline for mothers, building a compassionate community that nurtures their mental and emotional well-being.

FUNDING PARTNERS

to ensure every mother has the mental health support, community connection, and essential resources she needs to thrive in the postpartum period and beyond. We’re committed to creating a space where mothers are supported, empowered, and equipped to navigate the challenges of motherhood with confidence. Through accessible therapy, strong community networks, and vital resources like diapers and postpartum care kits, we help mothers prioritize their well-being, so they can focus on what matters most—caring for themselves and their families.

The Mama Wellness Foundation’s Mission is Simple…

Provide Accessible Mental Health Support

We are dedicated to ensuring every mother, especially Black mothers, has access to free or affordable therapy and mental health resources. Through our services, we help mothers navigate the emotional challenges of the postpartum period and beyond, empowering them to prioritize their mental wellness. By breaking down barriers to care, we ensure that no mother has to face this journey alone.

Build Strong Communities of Support:

We foster a connected and supportive community where mothers can share their stories, reduce feelings of isolation, and create meaningful relationships. Through group programs, events, and peer connections, we help mothers build lasting bonds with others who truly understand their experiences. This sense of community is crucial for emotional healing and strength during the transformative motherhood journey.

Offer Essential Resources for Motherhood:

We provide vital resources like postpartum care kits, diapers, and financial literacy workshops to address the practical needs of mothers. These resources help alleviate the stress of daily challenges, so mothers can focus on their own well-being and the needs of their families. By meeting both emotional and material needs, we empower mothers to thrive in every aspect of motherhood.

The State of Black Maternal
Mental Health in Texas.

Illustration of Pregnant Black Mama

Black mothers in Texas face significant disparities in maternal mental health, experiencing higher rates of postpartum depression and anxiety while lacking adequate screening and support. Texas has received an ‘F’ in maternal mental health screening, highlighting a severe gap in identifying and treating mental health conditions in Black mothers. These gaps are compounded by systemic barriers, including limited access to culturally competent care, economic disparities, and social stigma. Without proper mental health support, many Black mothers endure prolonged emotional distress, which impacts their well-being and the well-being of their children.

Despite the fact that Black mothers are 3-4 times more likely to experience severe maternal health complications, they are less likely to receive appropriate mental health care. The consequences of untreated postpartum depression can be far-reaching, contributing to long-term struggles for both mother and child. The Mama Wellness Foundation is dedicated to addressing these disparities by offering accessible therapy, community support, and essential resources to help Black mothers in Texas not only survive, but thrive during the postpartum period and beyond.
